Dark Fibre

Unlimited Optical Fibre Capability

Next Connex supplies bespoke dark fibre networks providing the ultimate in capacity and control.

Dark Fibre offers a physical fibre connection between sites with the ability for the user to completely control the network environment. Anything and everything that passes down the fibre is controlled by the operator, whose own network team light and manage the connection. The bandwidth is limited only by the hardware at each end.

Our Intelligent Design team can create resilient fibre rings, locate regeneration points (every 80Km) and can recommend, procure and manage equipment on behalf of the customer.

The client lights the fibre with their own equipment and routes the traffic.

Dark Fibre can be a leased pre-existing fibre pair already in the ground, or a new route we can construct specifically for you. Fibre pairs are then either purchased from the owner, or leased on a long term basis.

Short distance dark fibre (under 25Km) is cost effective over 5 years, with no complex transmission equipment required to transmit the signal at this distance.

Dark Fibre offers a layer one connection with the ability to completely control the network environment. Anything and everything that passes down the fibre is controlled by the operator, whose own network team light and manage the connection. The bandwidth is limited only by the hardware at each end.

Dark Fibre is most effective for businesses with larger bandwidth requirements (e.g. 10Gbps and above), an in-house networking team, and their own equipment to light the fibre and manage the traffic.

We are a fibre integrator and fibre network builder. We design and integrate fibre to provide you with the ideal solution to come in on time and within budget.

Dark Fibre refers to an unlit or unused fibre within a multi-fibre cable, which could be part of an existing installation in the ground or could be a new, bespoke link. At least 60% of the cost of developing fibre networks is civil engineering, rising to over 80% in cities. This includes planning and design, obtaining permissions, creating cable ducts and channels, as well as the installation of the cable and connection at each end.

A dark fibre connection between business premises will often involve the integration of two or more fibre networks and bespoke duct construction to access the networks at a nearby chamber in the ground.

"IT'S THE NETWORK THAT MAKES THE CLOUD WORK"TM

  • Our Dark Fibre is...
  • secure & scalable
  • Designing an end-to-end solution. Obtaining permissions and wayleaves. Construction of the physical access to buildings at each end. Leasing fibre from one or more carriers. Splicing all the fibre together to create a continuous connection. Testing the connection and determining the losses throughout. Designing equipment to light the fibre.
